CJ's Educational Background:

CJ has lived in Ithaca since 1984. She grew up on the water, hailing from Sodus Bay, NY - just a short 90 minute drive north of Ithaca. She originally came to Ithaca to study at Cornell University, where she graduated with a B.S. in Natural Resources in 1988. Having developed an interest in the live theatre in college, she moved to Ogunquit, Maine, after graduation where she worked as Assistant Treasurer of the famous Ogunquit Playhouse.  

CJ at Ithaca College Theatre  In 1989 CJ returned to Ithaca to work in the Marketing department at the Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts, where she worked for five years. While working at Ithaca College full-time, CJ earned a Master of Science degree in the area of Corporate Communications from the Roy H. Park School of Communications.  CJ then moved to Buffalo in 1993 where she worked at Studio Arena Theatre as Marketing Manager for the 1993-1994 season. But Ithaca was calling CJ back to Ithaca where she returned in the summer of 1994, where CJ's career in real estate started. She was hired as General Manager of Housing Solutions - Ithaca's largest apartment referral service. In June of 1996, CJ obtained her real estate license as a licensed salesperson and has enjoyed a successful career helping buyers and sellers with their real estate needs.

CJ's background in marketing, sales & management is a huge bonus for both buyers and sellers. She offers a creative edge in marketing homes for sale both in print and Internet media. CJ uses her experience in the market to help sellers pinpoint a realistic asking price which enables her to get homes sold quickly. For buyers, CJ provides a solid resource every step of the way, especially with first-time buyers. Through each client, CJ has gained increasing knowledge and expertise.

CJ believes strongly that her success is due to a commitment to excellence in client relations and continuing education in the field of real estate. She earned specialized training as a Certified Buyer Representative® in 1998. In 2000, CJ earned her Associate Broker license.  In 2008, CJ  earned the Graduate, REALTORS Institute® designation (GRI) which is granted upon completing 90 hours of education in the areas of marketing, technolog, investment properties, real estate law and environmental issues.

CJ's Volunteerism in Real Estate:

CJ is very active with the local REALTOR® association, the Ithaca Board of REALTORS®. She has served as President of the Ithaca Board (2004). She was awarded the honor of "REALTOR® of the YEAR" in 2001, awarded to an agent who demostrates professionalism & high ethical standards, volunteerism for the local board and also volunteerism in the community.

CJ is currently serving as the Ithaca Board's State Director, serving on the Board of Directors and acting as a voting member of the delegate body at the state association
of REALTORS®.

CJ is also very involved with the New York State Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR).  Highlights in leadership roles for NYSAR include:

2006 - chair of Information Management Committee in 2006, working with NYSAR staff on the NYSAR website and NYS REALTOR® magazine and the partnership with SEMO on emergency relief efforts as needed in the Ithaca area.

2009-2010 - CJ served as  Regional Vice President for the Southern Tier representing the Ithaca, Cortland, Greater Binghamton, Elmira-Corning and Otsego-Delaware Boards of REALTORS®. Her main role was as a liaison between the leaders of these local boards and the state association leadership.

2010 - As chair of Legislative Steering Committee, CJ lobbied in Washington DC for property rights and tax advocacy for NYS homeowners. She met with, among other federal legislators, NYS Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. 

2012 - As chair of Professional Standards, CJ created a handout celebrating the 100th centennial of the Code of Ethics which was published on the National Association of REALTORS® website, REALTOR.org

CJ's Volunteerism in the Ithaca Community:

CJ believes very strongly in charity and giving back to the Ithaca community. She supports affordable housing programs in the Ithaca area and served as Chair of the Board of Directors for Better Housing for Tompkins County from 2006 to 2008.  As co-Chair of their Long-Range Planning Committee, she led the organization through the development of their 3-year Strategic Plan.

CJ also uses her marketing degree as a member of Tompkins County' Public Information Advisory Board, which she has served on since 2008. This group advises the county's Public Information Department on a variety of local communication issues including presentation of the County budget. CJ helped Tompkins County start it's first Facebook page in 2009 as a way to use social media in communicating with the County's citizens.

In 2012, CJ applied for a seat on the Lansing Sewer Committee which is continuing into 2013 on bringing a new sewer district to the Town of Lansing. This new sewer district will also allow planned development in Lansing including afforable senior housing, retail, medical and office spaces. A dog park is already in place as well as green areas for residents to enjoy while living close to the center of Lansing.  This commitee meets every Wednesday at 2pm at the Town Hall in Lansing and it's open to the members of the public.

CJ is also a member of the the Board of Directors for the Cornell Alumni Association of Ithaca Area (CAAIA), a group that organizes events for Cornell Alumni in and around the Ithaca area. CJ is Secretary of CAAIA in 2013.

CJ's Passion for Ice Hockey:

CJ is a huge fan of ice hockey and has also played recreationally for many years. Currently she plays for the local women's team the Ithaca Sirens.

She started coaching girls hockey in 2008 and currently is an Assistant Coach for the 12-under girls team through the Tompkins Girls Hockey Association. You will find her either at The Rink in Lansing and Cass Park downtown throughout the hockey season. 

She enjoys helping teach young girls to develop their love of hockey & hockey skills and also working with other coaches and parents throughout the season.

CJ lives in the Town of Lansing with her husband Norm (a 4th generation Lansing son who is also a decendant of Lansing's famous Andrew Myers - for whom Myers Park is named). Norm is also a retired ce hockey player (he played on the Ithaca High School team that went to the State Championships in the early 1980's).  He also coached a Pee-wee boys team for many years with Ithaca Youth Hockey and can be seen coaching at Lansing's The Rink for the Ithaca Hockey Academy.

CJ enjoys her season tickets to both the Cornell Men & Women's Ice Hockey teams. 

Favorite NHL teams include the Buffalo Sabres and the LA Kings (note our local Ithaca Youth Hockey native Dustin Brown is the Kings' Captain).

CJ's Other Hobbies:

CJ was raised to be a well-rounded person and so she enjoys many other activities/interests such as fishing, boating and rollerblading. She has an appreciation of the natural world of biology and has a keen interest in the interaction of the environment and society. She also has an appreciation for fine art and enjoys traveling.  

Her favorite places in the world include: Ogunquit, Maine; San Diego and San Francisco, CA;  New Orleans; Washington DC and Chicago, IL. Special memories from trips to Paris in 2002 (photo on right), Vancouver BC in 2005, Hawaii in 2006, Las Vegas in 2007 and San Diego in 2009. She enjoys Califormia very much, having traveled to both Northern and Southern California. 

While CJ appreciates the vibe of a big city, she is deeply rooted in small town living and Ithaca offers a unique blend of a cosmpolitan atmophere with small town appeal. She is a great ambassador for Ithaca NY!
